LRCA Riverfest
May 11

You can paddle the Lackawanna River or just participate in the celebration. Canoes launch from Maslyar Park in Archbald and Blakely Borough Recreational Complex to the finish line at Sweeney Beach in Scranton. A full-day of activities includes music, food, drink, educational and environmental displays plus arts and crafts vendors.

Montrose Chocolate & Wine Festival
May 18

Enjoy samplings from numerous regional wineries and a local chocolate maker. The open-air event fills Chestnut Street in downtown Montrose with live music, food, arts and crafts, demonstrations and more.

Armed Forces Day Parade
May 18

Every branch of the U.S. military is honored at this event in downtown Scranton. The parade steps off at 11 a.m. from the Gino Merli Center. Participants include marching bands, military vehicles and equipment, veterans’ organizations, police and fire units.

Homesteading Day
May 18

Old Mill Village in New Milford celebrates the region’s farming heritage. Demonstrations and discussions explore topics such as beekeeping, soap making, cheese making, food preservation, maple syrup production, sheep and goat husbandry, gardening and weaving. Discover early techniques as well as modern methods of living off the land.

Celebrate the Connection Bike Ride
May 19

Ride the D&H Rail Trail from Ararat in Susquehanna County to the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail in Carbondale. The newly resurfaced trail with an easy 20-mile downgrade is great for riders of all ages and abilities. Park at the Hotel Anthracite and you and your bike will be transported to the starting point. Finish back at the hotel in Carbondale with a lunch buffet from noon-2 p.m. Reservations required.

St. Ubaldo Race of the Saints
May 25

A tradition in nearby Jessup since 1909. Immigrants from Gubbio, Italy brought the cultural celebration to their new hometown. Witness the time-honored, colorful procession and the festivities that follow.

Memorial Day Weekend Car Show

Members of Coal Crackers Cruisers bring their antique, classic and street rods to The Hotel Anthracite. Check out the cars at the Memorial Day Weekend Car Show from 2-6 p.m. while enjoying music, raffles, door prizes, food and drink.

Lackawanna County Heritage Fair

Montage Mountain in Scranton serves as the fairgrounds for this this inaugural event. Festivities include rides, ethnic foods, craft vendors and live entertainment.
