1. Homestead Golf Course
One of Northeast PA’s oldest 18-hole public golf courses is located just three miles from downtown Carbondale. The course first opened in 1962 on farm land that was settled in the mid-1800s. Wide tree-lined fairways, rolling terrain, a stream, ponds and a picturesque red barn make the course as scenic as it is challenging. Players of every ability will enjoy the 4,821-yard, par 67 course which includes a regulation front nine and executive back nine. A farmhouse serves as the clubhouse. The golf course is open daily. 2. Skyline Golf Course
This 100-acre, 18-hole public course straddles two sides of a quiet township road. Skyline Golf Course is located five miles from downtown Carbondale in Greenfield Township. The 4,695-yard, par 72 course first opened in 1960. The par 32 front nine measures 1,895 yards, making it ideal for a quick round or introduction for beginner golfers. The more challenging par 34 back nine takes in 2,800 yards. Facilities include a clubhouse serving platters, snacks and hot and cold beverages. Warm up on the practice putting green. 3. Sleepy Hollow Golf Course
Scenic views and tree-lined fairways are signatures of this 19-hole championship public golf course. Opened in 1987 the 5,186-yard course includes an executive front nine and challenging executive back 10. Walk the course or rent a cart. After a round of golf, enjoy entrees, hot and cold sandwiches and drinks in the clubhouse. 4. Panorama Golf Course
At 7,256 yards, Panorama ranks as one of the longest public golf courses in Pennsylvania. It’s located less than seven miles from downtown Carbondale. PGA professionals Bill Griffiths and Paul Kern designed the layout of the 160-acre course that was once a dairy farm. Players of every ability will find the 18-hole USGA Championship course a challenge. The dairy barn was renovated to serve as the Pro Shop with a bar and grill on the second floor. 5. Scott Greens Golf Club
Relaxing nine-hole golf course and teaching facility located nine miles from downtown Carbondale. The beautifully landscaped course takes full advantage of the surrounding mountain views. Walk or rent a cart. A light menu is available in the Clubhouse. The outdoor deck and patio seating are BYOB. Facilities at Scott Greens Golf Club include a mini putting course and an indoor state-of-the-art, high definition golf simulator, which is open year-round. 455 Green Grove Rd. 6. Wemberly Hills Golf Course
This public, nine-hole course encompasses 33 scenic acres. The Clubhouse features a fully stocked pro shop, restaurant and outdoor patio that overlooks the second green. Cart rentals available. Year-round indoor golf is available on two simulators. Play up to 20 different courses depicted in a virtual environment. A fully stocked bar features multiple televisions. 7. Red Maples Golf Course
A family-owned and operated course opened in 1964. This nine-hole regulation public course is beautifully designed as a par 33, 2,400-yard course. Cart rentals available. You’ll find Red Maples Golf Course eight miles from downtown Carbondale on 2322 Easton Turnpike, Waymart. 570-937-4543.
8. The Club at the Highlands
The newest golf course in the area features nine challenging holes and is located six miles from downtown Carbondale in Archbald. The USGA certified course is ideal for a quick round of golf yet demanding for players of every ability. Flat terrain makes the course highly walkable, but carts are available to rent.
