Merli Sarnoski County Park

Merli Sarnoski Park is a great green space that offers visitors over 850 acres to explore. Once you have arrived, there are areas to swim, play, bike, fish, and picnic. There is even a sandy beach area for relaxing. There is so much to do at this local park, you can plan to stay busy for the whole day!

Archbald Pothole State Park is a 149-acre park that you just have to see to believe. This park is named after a geologic feature, a giant “pothole,” that formed 15,000 years ago! Visitors looking for a nice place to walk will find a loop trail that runs past an old coal mine tram road.

Carbondale River Walk

Don’t miss the chance to explore a great trail close to Hotel Anthracite, the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail. This rail trail runs for almost 18 miles. The Carbondale section runs for 3.25 miles and the trail head is just two blocks from the hotel’s front door. This pathway is a great local spot for walking and biking.

Those looking to mountain bike in the area will love the D & H Rail Trail. The trail is named after the Delaware and Hudson Railroad and runs parallel to the Lackawanna River. The terrain is pretty rugged, so mountain bikes are necessary. Since the trail runs for 38 miles, plan accordingly!
